Revel Body

Humanity needs anatomical learning materials that are made in consensual environments of mutual care and inquiry.

We believe it is our birthright to receive beautiful, affirming, evolving, sex positive materials to learn about anatomy, perception and power.

Revel Body is a collection of anatomical art and story curated to rise up and flourish amidst restrictive social norms about how our bodies should look, love, heal, work, rest and find pleasure.

Our research uplifts belonging, studying human bodies as essential parts of our planetary anatomy. We are asking what our bodies are and what they are for in relationship with the Earth.

We believe that much of the violence, apathy and loneliness on Earth is related to the suppression of and misinformation about anatomy, eros, and pleasure.

It is time to inoculate ourselves and our children with images and stories that protect our creative sovereignty

The Revel Body planetary anatomy collection is hand painted in watercolor and will become a deck of cards accompanied by a book of personal and ancestral stories that contextualize each painting

Revel Body’s learning pathways center creative sovereignty, pleasure agency and embodied knowing as skillsets for navigating the abuse of erotic power running rampant in human culture.

This collection invites both a celebration of holistic pleasure and a deeper understanding of the many ways we live through, endure, and transform our struggles.

We are shifting the paradigm in modern anatomical art of the body as an anonymous site for scientific phenomena. We are painting our bodies from life - the real colors and shapes- and sharing stories that are personal and true.

Revel Body is co-created from an emergent, multidisciplinary inquiry exploring the role of the artist, indigenous elder and community dialog in cultural transformation in the field of anatomical art and storytelling.

Project Goals

  • Explore how humanity’s relationship with our personal, cultural and planetary anatomy impacts our ability to thrive

  • Tell a story of embodiment that centers queer and indigenous people, people of color and women while also including men

  • Create accurate, beautiful anatomical art painted from life in a caring, consensual environment that includes a personal story from the model, who is a part of the research team

  • Increase empathy and advocacy between genders

  • Increase accessibility to art and stories that speak to humanity’s profound curiosity about how human anatomy relates to power, culture, pleasure, healing and identity

  • Demystify what is "normal" by sharing personal stories that have been labeled “abnormal” or “taboo”, which are actually common, shared experiences of embodiment.

  • Illustrate the intimate, collaborative aspects of humanity's relationship with ancestral arts, ecology and agriculture

Research Team Invitation

How we engage with our organs of origin, our pleasure, our erotic, creative sense of self is one of the most controversial subjects of our time- a subject that impacts culture and human potential in extreme ways.

Our ability to learn and teach how to be safe, sovereign sexual beings and allow others to do so has been under attack world wide for centuries.

Our Anatomy is calling together a research team of artists and models to build the Revel Body Planetary Anatomy Collection.

We are looking for a multidisciplinary team of researchers who have experience with somatics, consent and transformational justice practices.

We are currently fundraising to finish the collection. If you are turned on by this possibility, please share with your networks. We are receiving tax deductible donations through our fiscal sponsor, New York Foundation for the Arts.
